Model train hobbyists will tell you what an addictive hobby model railroads are. Right from the very first time you handled a model locomotive to the feeling of achievement when you set up your first layout. Non enthusiasts may wonder what all the fuss is about, but how many other hobbies bring the generation together as beautifully as the model train does.

If you have ever heard a grandfather explaining to his grandson the difference between scale and gauge. Or a father telling his child about the advantage of the G scale over any other, then you will know exactly what I am talking about. I remember my own son patiently explaining to his friend how the S scale has a ratio of 1:64. TT scale has a ratio of 1:120. And Z scale has a ratio of 1:220 which is even smaller the n the N scale. Oh and he was hoping to have fish fingers for lunch! Anyway, the point being, that model railroading is perfect for all, male or female, young or old.

I would watch enthralled as my own father set about building the benchwork, carefully laying out his track plans and finally setting out together to purchase trains, scenery and whatever accessories took our fancy. And when the day finally arrived, the family gathered around the railroad and watched in awe as, with a grand gesture, my father set the locomotive on its journey. Seeing that train chug its way around the track, travelling over bridges and through fields was breathtaking to a small child. Actually, it has pretty much the same effect still! Why not try it and see for yourself.
